What is the Antiviral Protection Plan?

The Antiviral Protection Plan reserves one treatment course of antiviral medication on an annual basis. This ensures you have guaranteed access to the medication. The cost is £9.99 inc VAT per person per year to reserve one treatment pack of medication. You may purchase as many plans as you wish.

How do I sign up to the Antiviral Protection Plan?

You may purchase as many plans as you like. To sign up, simply go to the Order page, enter the number of plans you require, click Add to Basket, then click Go to Basket and follow the payment process. Once your payment has been successfully processed you will receive an order confirmation by email.

How do I renew the Plan again next year?

We will make contact with you in plenty of time for you to renew your Antiviral Protection Plan each year.

How much does it cost to upgrade to the full Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme?

The cost of an upgrade to the Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme is £20.00 per person plus VAT to include online medical screening, a private prescription and one full course of medication.

Which antiviral medication will I receive when I upgrade to the full Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme?

Each Antiviral Protection Plan purchased will provide access to one full course of antiviral medication (10 x 75mg capsules) when you upgrade to full membership. Healthcare Connections' supply the same medication as stockpiled by the UK Government and governments around the world, the antiviral drug called 'Tamiflu'. 

When should I upgrade to the Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme?

You should consider upgrading your membership when the WHO declares an increase in the pandemic alert, or when you feel you wish to purchase your own private supply of medication to keep safely at home.

How do I upgrade to the Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme? 

If you wish to access our full Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme (PIMS), which includes your supply of antiviral medication currently reserved under your Antiviral Protection Plan, please go to www.pimsreg.com 

At the login page enter the username and password as detailed in your Antiviral Protection Plan documentation.

Once you have successfully logged in, simply click on the 'my accounts' tab at the top of your screen and follow the registration process. You will need to provide your personal details, answer a short questionnaire and make your payment to upgrade.

The cost of upgrade to the full Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme, is £20 per person plus VAT, secure shipping via a courier service is included in this fee. 

How do I join the Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme (PIMS) without signing up to the Antiviral Protection Plan first?

When you register with the Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme you will be guaranteed a supply of antiviral medication (one treatment course) delivered directly to you.

If you would like to join this private healthcare scheme please go to www.pimsreg.com and enter the username: GP and the password: pandemic9

You will need to click on the 'my accounts' tab at the top of the screen and follow the order process which involves providing a few personal details and answering a short medical questionnaire. 

The cost to join PIMS is £20 per person plus VAT, this includes one treatment course of antiviral medication and shipping via a secure courier service.

Following registration and subject to the medical information provided, medication will be prescribed and dispatched.

Can I order medication for my child?

Yes, children can be included in the APP scheme.

On upgrade to the full private healthcare scheme, we are able to provide medication suitable for children as part of our Pandemic Influenza Management Scheme. Children over the age of 1 year, will receive medication in capsule form that needs to be mixed with a fluid to provide a suitable suspension. When you receive the medication, you will be provided with full guidance detailing how to mix the medication for child dosing. 

What does the phrase 'Influenza like - illness' mean?

Influenza - like illness describes the symptoms you experience when you have an influenza virus. You will experience a high temperature (more than 37.5C) you will be feverish with sweats and chills. You will also have at least one of the following respiratory symptoms, cough, sore throat, runny nose, congestion or sinus pain. You will also have at least one of the following, headache, malaise, myalgia (muscle aches or backache) or fatigue. Please note that nausea and/or vomiting may also be present. Influenza often causes extreme weakness and fatigue, in contrast to a simple cold.

What does 'post - exposure' prevention mean?

If you have been exposed to a person who has swine flu/pandemic influenza you are at risk of contracting the virus. Antiviral medication can be used to help protect you, however it should be taken within 48 hours of being exposed to the virus to be effective.

I am worried about travel 

If you have concerns about travel, we recommend that you follow the guidelines provided by the Foreign Office as they will be able to offer you the most up to date information.
