Swine Flu Pandemic Update

On 11th June, the World Health Organisation declared a global H1N1 pandemic.

This means that the deadly Swine Flu virus is spreading uncontrollably throughout the world. In the UK alone, as at 23rd July there are around 100,000 new confirmed cases per week. The Chief Medical Officer has stated that several million cases of Swine Flu could develop in the UK this autumn, and the Government is concerned that at least 50% of the population will become ill and that up to 65,000 people could die.

The UK is currently the third worst affected country in the world. Should Swine Flu continue to spread, there will not be enough antiviral medication for everyone who needs it.
